Concluding statements


The Batman trilogy does present some constructions for mental illness: the idea that mental illness can be purposely induced and act as a consequence of crime, that the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder can compel some to exact revenge through crime, and antisocial personalities and behaviours play a role in a person’s criminal activity.

Of course, the film trilogy presents some alterations of the villains to make it all seem more realistic, so the comic book versions are more susceptible to appear as mentally insane. But even in film, the Joker and Two-Face especially are good examples of villains whose mental state influences their behaviour and leads them to crime, and Scarecrow is one who can manipulate the mind to complete his fiendish tasks.

Other than that, I just want to include this picture. I tried to incorporate it into a post, but found other material that fit better. Basically, it pokes fun at the villains' true motives for committing their crimes:
